Description
Imagine yourself on a motorcycle, goggles on, wind in your face, sun beating down, machine alive beneath you, and you with nowhere to be but free.. Southbound on the Bay Bridge from Clearwater to St. Pete, FL.
The big clear sky and open water of Tampa Bay on the approach to one of the bridges connecting St. Petersburg, FL to Tampa always strike me as an abstract of angles. In this shot the only part of the original photograph is the bridge and that teeny strip of land on the horizon. I filled a blank rectangle with a gradient of sky blue and tweaked the hue and saturation until it was almost indistinguishable from the sky in the photo. Then I filled a smaller rectangle with shades of green and blue for the water - the result is somewhat close to the photographed water, but it is still obviously a created substitute to evoke my concept of the water of Tampa Bay. I kept the bridge and was almost going to delete the lampposts and other hardware above the horizon, but realized they provide a great perspective of distance, so I kept them and played with the textures and saturation. I hope that people who love the feeling of movement will see what I feel when I look at this vista.
