Description
Picture taken at the beach by the Gulf of Mexico in St. Petersburg, Florida, on a partially cloudy evening just a tad past sunset. The light on the water and on the wet sand looked magical, and the little lapping wavelets softly came ashore and slid away.
Standing at just this place, at the edge of the water, wherever I may be, gives me the most profound feeling of oneness with the universe. At the place where air and land and see meet, standing in sand that feels alive under my bare feet, with the frothy water, barely ankle deep, this tiny bit of earth, air, and water I am experiencing connects me, grounds me. The water around my toes is the same water that is beyond the horizon, is part of all the water in all the lakes and oceans of the planet, that rises in the atmosphere and comes back to us as rain, nourishing, all encompassing. To some people, a beach is just a beach, some place to cool off on a sunny day; to me it is so much more.
I did have to enhance the saturation and contrast in this photo in order to share the image as close to how I viewed it as I could make it. So many awe inspiring moments, when captured on film (or in pixels) loses a lot in translation and require some manipulation to convey the feelings of the moment. I hope I have done this justice.
