Shot in 2007, the original photo was taken on Swing Night at the Gulfport Casino in Gulfport, Florida, at the southern tip of the St. Petersburg peninsula. I always took my camera and took pictures inside and outside of the building, of the beautiful dance floor and of couples tripping the light fantastic from my table when I was not dancing myself. This is one of the latter shots and is what I consider a lucky snap, catching the swirl of this woman's skirt in mid twirl. I loved the shot, but wanted to give it an eye-catching treatment, so I put everything except the dress into not just black and white, but gave it a pen and ink effect. The dress then becomes the highlight of the picture, in a beautiful sapphire blue. Incidentally, the dress is actually bright red, but I thought that a selective color treatment of red on black and white is overdone and, while I was experimenting with the color slide, this blue just popped,
